Integral skin foams

Bayer MaterialScience integral skin foams – rigid and flexible materials for creative ideas

The Bayer MaterialScience integral skin foam systems Baydur®, Bayfill® and Bayflex® have been used for many years in a wide variety of applications. Their property profiles offer an attractive alternative to traditional materials such as wood, metal, thermoplastics and thermoset plastics.

The sandwich-like structure, which gives the molded parts their high mechanical stability and minimal weight, is created in a single step from one material. The reaction mixture expands in a closed mold. The specific temperature and pressure conditions in the mold give rise to a solid outer zone and a microporous foam core. There is a gradual change in density over the foam’s cross-section. Smart selection of the raw materials for the system components enables rigid (Baydur®), semi-rigid (Bayfill®) and flexible (Bayflex®) integral foams to be produced.

Whether they’re intended for use in automotive, furniture, footwear, sports, leisure goods or many other sectors, integral skin foam systems from Bayer MaterialScience always provide a convincing solution.
